Ellis Dullaart of the RKD, The Hague, convincingly attributed the picture to the portraitist and genre painter David van der Plas. She compares the picture to a painting by this rare artist that was sold at Sotheby’s, London, on 16 December 1999 as lot 52., The present composition is registered in the RKD database under no. 268140
